Opened female abdomen with the uterus at the end of pregnancy

The uterus, in the final stages of pregnancy, is visible. It occupies most of the abdominal cavity nearly reaching the xiphoid process of the sternum and pushing upwards, below the liver, the intestinal loops covered by the greater omentum. On the uterus the peritoneum has been cut vertically to display the myometrium on which the uterine vessels, coiled and dilated, are clearly visible.

The femoral (Scarpa’s) triangle is shown at the root of the left thigh; inside it, the femoral artery and vein, which then hides behind the sartorius muscle, can be seen.
