Born
in 1754 in Florence and died in the same city in 1814. Studied
art and specialized in bronze sculpture, painting on glass and
copper engraving.
In 1773, he became an apprentice modeller in the wax modelling
workshop of the Florentine Museo della Specola (Observatory
Museum) under the direction of Abbot Fontana. Susini took the
technique of wax modelling to the highest peak of artistic perfection
achieved to that date. Many of Susini's wax anatomical models
are kept at the universities of Pavia, Padua, Pisa, Bologna,
Siena, Perugia and Cagliari.
The wax models on view in Cagliari are considered the finest
of Susini's works because they represent his mature output.
Other wax anatomical models are kept in Spain, England, Sweden,
Russia and Austria. In Austria, hundreds of wax models are kept
in the "Josephinum" palace in Vienna (the former Military
Medical School). A number of Susini's wax models, particularly
those depicting religious subjects, are exhibited in the Sanluri
castle museum in the province of Cagliari.
