ESAME DI INGLESE

II ANNO

L’esame di Inglese consiste in una prova scritta ed una orale, per cui gli studenti che devono solo sostenere quest’ultima devono far riferimento a quanto descritto nella relativa descrizione.

La prova scritta dura 2 ore e comprende le seguenti parti: Listening comprehension (Scientific English), Use of English (General and Scientific English), Reading Comprehension (General or Scientific English), Writing.

 

La prova orale dura 10-15 minuti e consiste in 3 parti (gli studenti verranno esaminati a coppie):

1.     PARTE I: Introduction (Introducing yourself, answering the examiner’s questions about daily routine, studies, hobbies, future plans, past experiences);

2.     PARTE II: Scientific questions (Answering scientific questions asked by the examiner, for example: can you give a definition of a pathologist? Can you give a definition of an endoscope? How do you take blood? How do you prepare for a medical imaging?

3.     PARTE III: Doctor-patient interaction

Example 1: Role-play interview following this case history: James Robert, 48, Single, Builder, Complaint: c/o frontal headache 4/7 following cold. Worse in a.m. and when bending down. Also c/o being «off colour» and feverish.

Example 2: Carry out a neurological examination testing the flexibility of the patient. Give instructions.

Example 4: Carry out a paediatric examination

Example 5: Instruct, reassure and warn a patient while you are taking his/her blood pressure

 

Syllabus:

SCIENTIFIC ENGLISH:

English in Medicine Units 1, 2, 3, 4: Taking a History; Asking basic questions, Asking about symptoms, Asking about systems; Taking notes; A letter of Referral;

+ extra material on: Aches and Pains; Symptoms and Pain; Staying Healthy; Functions of the body; Medical Practitioners 1 and 2; Investigations; Physical Examination; Lay terms and Definitions.

GENERAL ENGLISH:

Verb forms - Present Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous; Past simple, Continuous; Passive forms; Present/Past simple; Will/Going to; Imperatives: Instructions and requests; Modal Verbs: obligation, permission, deduction in the present.
